This Swine Life: Pig Named 6-7 Spared by Miami-Dade Mayor.
While perhaps not at the identical stature as pardoning holiday birds, but the county's top official conducted a presidential-style act this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She is worthy of this pardon. No offenses are on her docket,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with obvious nods to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued since the onset of a second term in office.
“Unless you count eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” the mayor added. “I hope she experiences a prosperous future away from worry.”
The gathering, simultaneously observing and challenging the local cultural practice of eating roast pork during the holidays, was established to mirror the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The pig, donated by a Coral Gables firefighter, was named for the popular vernacular phrase of young people yelling “six-seven” – originating from a rap song lyric – often seemingly at random. The craze became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently declared “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A Future Secured
Six Seven the pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a countryside refuge “away from grills and cookware”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“This swine clemency has become a beloved tradition to kick off the holiday season,” said Eric Castellanos, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It captures the character of Miami: joyful, multicultural, and grounded in customs that foster togetherness. Every time, we are honored to observe tradition and kindness in a way unique to Miami.”
Attendees enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach croquetas and Cuban coffee as they toasted the swine's new lease on life.
