The President Calls Families of Shot National Guard Personnel to White House

Former President Trump announced on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the relatives of a Guard member fatally shot last week to attend the White House.

He noted that he spoke to her parents and they were “devastated”.

Information on the Heartbreaking Event

Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was killed in a attack on Wednesday in the nation's capital.

Her comrade, Andrew Wolfe, 24, remains hospitalized in serious condition.

Vigils across West Virginia have occurred in their memory.

Presidential Invitation

The president said he’s talked about a meeting at the presidential residence for the families of both members of the West Virginia National Guard.

“I said: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a tough thing, arrive at the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to her,” Trump told reporters. “And in the same way with Andrew, no matter the outcome.”

Community Response

Mourners assembled over the weekend at a local school in West Virginia to pay respects to Sarah.

Both she and Wolfe had been fulfilling duties with the West Virginia National Guard as part of the president’s federal initiative to support law enforcement in Washington DC.

Remembering Sarah Beckstrom

“She was the kind of student that instructors desired. She carried herself with inner fortitude, a contagious smile and a optimistic attitude that encouraged those around her,” Hankins, the principal of her former high school, told the press. “She was sweet, considerate and always ready to assist people.”

Memorial plans for Beckstrom are still being arranged.

Judicial Steps and Government Revisions

Law enforcement have indicted a 29-year-old Afghan national with a charge of homicide and two counts of attempted murder while armed.

The event led the Trump administration to suspend refugee claims and halt providing visas to owners of Afghan passports.

Condition of Wolfe

The airman, a native of Martinsburg, began his service in early 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman High, per the AP.

He is still undergoing care and is “fighting for his life”, the state’s governor Morrisey stated on a news program.

Attorney general Bondi told the program that she planned to speak to his relatives.

Legacy of Beckstrom

Beckstrom, from Summersville, completed her education from Webster County High in June 2023 and joined the military shortly after, working as a military police officer with excellence, per the military.

“She had a lot of kindness and she definitely had fortitude,” the governor informed the audience at the vigil. “Though her life lasted far too short, she has created a legacy that’s going to last forever.”
