The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Sets Woody and Buzz Against a Tablet Computer
It has been 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story film debuted, establishing the animation giant as a major animation studio and bringing audiences to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a brief look into the storyline but keeping fans wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys
In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he left for college — getting a brand new toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a carnival and helping prize toys locate loving owners.
Certainly, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is a little strange, though. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the badge pinned to her shirt.
Hopefully she is still the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
