Slot Maintains He Is Safe and Retains Liverpool's Support Following PSV Defeat
Arne Slot admitted that it's expected for questions to be raised about his future following a further convincing loss against the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their 9th defeat in twelve matches, representing the club's worst run after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league title holders on a difficult evening at Anfield.
“I feel secure, I am OK, I've received a lot of support from the top,” the coach stated.
“It would be great to change things and secure a win of course but if you are coaching a team and struggling then it's expected that questions are asked.”
He noted, “I accept my situation. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a difficult position but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”
Discussions with Club Management
When asked to provide details on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach explained:
“There's regular dialogue. They are supportive for the squad and for me and those talks happen but they don’t call me all the time each day to say they back me.”
He added, “Through standard conversations we have I sense the trust. But I haven’t spoken to them after this game yet so we'll see.”
Recurring Problems and Player Reaction
The manager expressed regret over recurring weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their Champions League loss, namely missed opportunities and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more direct in his view of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everyone,” the midfielder stated.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don't have to wait to consider it. I’m past being angry inside. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He continued, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I've watched this club all my life.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team going through a period such as this with results like these.”
Jones concluded, “However we still have the crest on our shirts. And as long as that badge is taken away, we will always fight.”
“Our aim is to get this team return to the top, prove again what this club is about and why people call it the greatest side in the planet.”
“At this moment, things are bad and it needs to change.”
