New Details Come to Light About the Discovery of the Bodies of Rob and Michele Reiner Remains
Fresh particulars have surfaced concerning the untimely demises of acclaimed director Rob Reiner and photographer Michele Singer Reiner, whose remains were discovered at their Brentwood, Los Angeles residence on Sunday.
The Discovery
According to a report citing a person close to the family, a therapist scheduled for an appointment initially became concerned after failing to get inside the residence. The therapist then reached out to the couple's daughter, Romy Reiner, who lives nearby.
Upon entering the home, Romy found her father's body. It is said she then fled the house in anguish, without knowing at that moment that her mother's body was also present. Another individual who had gone with her then dialed 911. Subsequently, first responders found Michele Singer Reiner's body.
Legal Developments
Law enforcement have charged the couple's 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, with two counts of murder in the first degree, as well as the use of a dangerous weapon, said to be a knife. He is now being held without bail.
Clarifications
The anonymous source also disputed several initial details. The source indicated that while Romy Reiner told first responders that her brother Nick resided in a separate structure on the estate, she did not point to him as a person of interest at that time.
The source also disputed widely reported suggestions that Rob and Michele Singer Reiner had been unusually "apprehensive" about Nick's actions in the weeks leading up to the incident. The source claimed the family was "accustomed to working through [Nick's] problems together."
This refutation also extends to reports of reportedly "unpredictable" behavior by Nick at a event held by Conan O'Brien on the night before the tragedy. Although the source noted they were unable to confirm whether Rob had "chastised" his son at the party, they said that suggestions of a "heated argument" between the two were not correct.
Ongoing Inquiry Timeline
According to law enforcement officials, the coroner had not yet established as of Tuesday whether the Reiners died on Saturday evening or on Sunday. Preliminary accounts indicated the state of their bodies pointed to they had been dead for a period of time.
Nick Reiner was taken into custody at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Sunday in the neighbourhood of Exposition Park, about 15 miles from the scene. He was scheduled to have a hearing on Tuesday, but his legal counsel, Alan Jackson, stated his client had a medical issue and would be unable to attend until no sooner than Wednesday.
