Democratic lawmakers Condemn Trump After He States They Should Face Execution

Lawmakers from the Democratic party voiced outrage after the ex-president alleged a coalition of Democratic congress members of being "betrayers" and asserted they should be detained and sentenced "with execution" following their release of a contentious video.

The Recording That Sparked the Debate

The video footage, released on Tuesday, includes six Democratic lawmakers who formerly worked in defense or intelligence capacities.

"As we did, you all swore an oath to safeguard and uphold this constitution," the lawmakers declared in the short video. "Currently, the dangers to our constitution are not only from overseas, but from right here at home. Our statutes are clear, you can decline unlawful commands, you can decline unlawful commands, you should refuse unlawful commands. No one has to carry out directives that contravene the statutes or our national charter."

Donald Trump's Angry Response

The recorded statement reportedly provoke a heated reply from the ex-president.

On later in the week, Trump published on his social media platform: "This represents SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these betrayers to our Country should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."

In a separate post, he stated: "This is really concerning, and Harmful to our United States. Their words cannot be permitted to stand. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"

In a third publication, he stated: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, liable by DEATH!" He also reposted a statement that stated: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"

Democratic Leaders React

Following Trump's comments on Thursday, Democratic leadership issued a unified announcement condemning the comments.

"Partisan aggression has no place in this nation," they declared. "Representatives who participated in the video all worked our country with tremendous loyalty and honor. We unequivocally censure Donald Trump's disgusting and dangerous death threats against congressional representatives, and call on GOP representatives to vigorously do the same."

The opposition officials also mentioned that they had been in touch with protective services "to ensure the safety of these members and their families."

"Donald Trump must immediately delete these radical social media posts and withdraw his violent rhetoric before he gets someone killed," the announcement continued.

Officials' Strong Reaction

The lawmakers who were featured in the video also issued a response.

"We are ex-military personnel and defense specialists who care for this United States and made an pledge to protect and support the constitution of the United States," they stated. "Our pledge lasts a lifetime, and we plan to honor it. No warning, pressure, or incitement will prevent us from that fundamental responsibility."

"The most revealing aspect is that the former president deems it subject to penalty by capital punishment for us to repeat the law," they continued. "Our service members should know that we have their protection as they fulfill their pledge to the founding principles and responsibility to obey only proper directives. It is not only the right thing to do, but also our responsibility."

They stated: "Every American must join forces and condemn the ex-president's demands for our murder and political violence. This is a period for ethical certainty."

More Governmental Reactions

The Senate Democratic leader also denounced Trump's statements and published on online networks: "It's important to understand: the former president is requesting the capital punishment of public representatives."

He added: "This represents an clear THREAT. Each congressional member, each house member, the entire nation – irrespective of political affiliation – should censure this without delay and unconditionally."

The Conservative official justified Trump's assertion that the Democrats had been involved in "treason", describing the video as "highly unsuitable", commenting: "It is very harmful, you have leading members of Congress telling military personnel to disobey orders, I think that's unprecedented in the nation's past."

The Republican leader also according to sources informed journalists that in what he reviewed of Trump's publications, Trump was "explaining the violation of sedition" but that "attorneys have to analyze the terminology and establish all that."

Executive Branch Response

During a executive branch meeting on that day, when inquired by a journalist, "Is the president want to kill elected officials?", the White House press secretary answered: "Absolutely not."

"It's important to note about what the ex-commander in chief is responding to," the official stated. "You have active officials of the US Congress who worked together to organize a video message to personnel of the national defense, to active duty service members advising them to ignore the executive's legal commands."

She added: "The integrity of our defense system relies on the chain of command, and if that chain of command is broken, it can cause fatalities, it can cause disorder, and precisely what these members of Congress ... are fundamentally supporting."
