Battlefield 6's Casual Playlist Sparks Intense Debates Regarding AI Players, Experience Points, and Wait Times
Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios launched a fresh game mode called Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode mirrors the standard Breakthrough setup but includes a few notable changes:
- Every squad includes only eight human participants, with the remaining made up of AI-controlled opponents.
- Actions performed by real players grant full XP, while bot actions offer lower rewards.
- Only two maps are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
- Elements like Dogtags, achievements, and career stat updates are disabled.
So essentially, the playlist lives up to its name: it's a laid-back version of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think there's nothing wrong, since it gives additional choices for gamers looking for different ways to enjoy the game. But, if video games has shown one thing, it is that you can't please everyone. In other words, a lot of Battlefield 6 fans are upset.
Community Reactions: Anger to Support
"Gamers prefer human opponents. Avoid making the mistakes of your rivals," reads a response to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing concept," says another. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user remarks, "It's unclear where we are going with this game," while another details everything they believe to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We do not require this bot mode."
On the other hand, for every complaint, there are players sharing how much they're liking the new mode. "It's enjoyable to warm up, real players prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," says one Reddit comment. "This subreddit fails to see that there are players who have lives and can't play this title 24/7. Let them strike a balance," adds another. One reply on Twitter explains that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," while someone else praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Valid Criticisms and Community Input
All that said, there are constructive reasons to criticize the new mode. Some users have highlighted that it will make queue times more extended for different playlists because of the large amount of options currently available. On a similar note, some areas already encounter mostly bots in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a minimum number of real players, despite it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.
Lastly, one of the biggest complaints is that a previous feature was meant to provide complete rewards, including AI matches, but that got canned when they tried to eliminate bot farms from the mode. So this new playlist seems like the community compromising in the middle, as per forum feedback. Another describes this addition as the developers "dropping the ball so hard, I had so much fun in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"
Looking Ahead: Adjustments Occur?
Should the development team has demonstrated something so far with the latest installment, it is that they're paying attention and responding to feedback. Assignments that were overly hard got fixed very quickly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, should analytics shows this new playlist is underperforming to their standards, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
